At times, everyone has anxiety about going to the orthodontist—even adults! Check out the following FAQs and get answers to some of your lingering questions.

What should I expect during my appointments?2020-12-28T16:15:56-04:00

Dr. Kelley or Dr. Gardner visit each patient, places all appliances, updates you on the progress of treatment, and discusses any concerns you have. We feel every patient should feel welcome to speak directly to our staff, and we encourage you to share your concerns with us so we can quickly alleviate your worries.

After I get braces, do I need to change my oral hygiene routine?2018-11-26T02:54:34-04:00

Yes! Keeping your teeth and orthodontic appliances clean requires a little more effort on your part. We will provide special instructions based on your type of orthodontic treatment.

Generally, try to avoid hard, sticky, chewy, and crunchy foods, and don’t chew on hard objects like pens, pencils, fingernails.  And NEVER chew ice—even without braces.

What are my options if I don’t want braces? Do you offer Invisalign® or clear braces?2019-07-08T13:39:13-04:00

If you’re embarrassed about having to get braces, we offer Invisalign and other clear aligner systems (invisible braces) instead of traditional braces to correct some problems.  We also offer Damon Clear, and other clear ceramic braces for more complex treatment needs.  The technology behind clear braces has changed a lot in recent years, and the brackets are clearer and stronger than ever!

Ask us about less visible treatment options that will help you reach your treatment goals.

Can I play sports with braces?2018-11-26T02:55:00-04:00

Yes, but you should wear a protective mouth guard. We will recommend the right kind of mouth guard while you are having orthodontic treatment, but be sure to wear it at every practice and game.

How safe are x-rays?2018-11-26T02:55:07-04:00

Dental x-rays get safer as technology advances. The amount of radiation you’re exposed to is very low, and you are only exposed for a short amount of time.  In addition, we only use digital x-rays, which drastically reduces the amount of radiation compared to older film based x-rays.

Are payment plans available for my orthodontic treatment?2018-11-26T02:55:14-04:00

At your complimentary initial exam, we will discuss our flexible payment options with you. If needed, we can divide the majority of the cost for your treatment over the length of the treatment period.

What should I do if I have an emergency?2019-07-08T13:43:05-04:00

In general, there are very few true orthodontic emergencies. If something breaks or pokes and you are in discomfort, please call our office immediately. A member of our team is always available to answer any questions and take care of true emergencies.

We offer emergency services during regular office hours and will work with your schedule the best we can to see you immediately.

Please note that a broken brace that is not causing pain is NOT an emergency.  Please call the office during business hours and we will see you shortly to fix the bracket.
